Laura Flores Macom was raised here in San Antonio, where her family has resided for several generations. She attended The University of Texas at Austin as a recipient of the prestigious Texas Achievement Award scholarship and Texas Presswomen’s Scholarship, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor’s of Journalism. After marrying her high school sweetheart and starting a family, she went on to attend Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, also on scholarship, where she was named the Outstanding Advocate of her 1997 law school graduating class and was one of ten classmates selected for the honored Order of Barristers. She was also one of only six students in her class awarded a Collins Clerkship from the Dallas Bar Association during which time she served as a summer clerk for the Honorable Justice Sue LaGarde and the Honorable Justice Frances Maloney at the Court of Appeals for the 5th District of Texas in Dallas. After her graduation, she served as a Briefing Attorney for the Honorable Justice Tom James, also at the Dallas Court of Appeals.
Following her tenure as a Briefing Attorney, she returned to her family roots in San Antonio in 1998. Since that time Ms. Macom has practiced civil litigation in San Antonio and throughout South Texas in the areas of professional liability defense, products liability defense, commercial litigation, and family law for some of the area’s preeminent civil litigation firms.
She resides in San Antonio with her husband Carl. They are the proud parents of two adult daughters and the very proud grandparents of a granddaughter and soon-to-be grandson. Ms. Macom enjoys spending time with her family and faith community; participating in local civic organizations; and taking informal courses on Biblical Studies, Theology, and Spirituality at the Oblate School of Theology where she hopes to pursue an advanced degree while continuing her law practice.
